New GPA Rules for Participation
Printable version
The East Baton Rouge Parish School System is a high-achieving, performance-based system advancing scholarship, and the life long development of students consistent with their needs, interests, and abilities. In conjunction with the goal to increase student achievement as set forth in the Strategic Plan, The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board supports the eligibility standards set forth in this new policy which requires students participating in ALL extra-curricular activities to meet the minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 in the 2009-2010 school year.
Students shall have a minimum GPA of 2.0 to participate in extra-curricular activities in the 2009-2010 school year. Schools will provide academic opportunities through voluntary tutorial programs to students who have failed to meet the required minimum GPA for extra curricular participation.
For athletic purposes, EBR policy SUPERSEDES the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) 1.5 GPA requirement. ALL other LHSAA Eligibility rules must be met in full for interscholastic athletic participation. Extra-curricular activities do not fall within the scope of the regular curriculum; any activity in which the student CANNOT obtain a Carnegie Unit or academic credit (Examples: Clubs, Dance Team, Cheerleading, Athletics, etc.) Each School will provide a study skills or tutoring program to facilitate an environment that will provide support and will allow students in need of assistance to maximize their academic growth.
